Password Change - Use of Special Characters

$

I just attempted to change the password for my email account.  The instructions provided says the password may contain the following special characters (!@#$_-]*); however, I got an error message saying the password has to be alpha-numeric.  Further attempts using the allowed special characters said the new password contained invalid characters.

Thank you.

Not happy with the new webmail interface

Just wanted to give some constructive feedback.  The new webmail interface, while it looks nice, is slower than the old interface.  When deleting email it takes a long time to update my list of emails.  The trash number increases but the emails I just deleted are still there in the list.  I haven't found a way to get rid of the preview once I've clicked on an email to read.  There is no way to make the columns smaller.

More junkmail

I’ve had roadrunner email for years, I’ve made no recent changes. I use it on multiple different devices - pc, iPhone, iPad, etc. Recently a lot more junkmail has been coming through, stuff that was previously stopped by the server. I checked my settings on the web interface and nothing changed, junk is set to go to junk folder, but it’s still coming through on all devices. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Select emails won't open on phone only

I am trying to troubleshoot why certain emails won't open on my phone but will open on my laptop & PC.

There are a couple of sites that put out a daily newsletter. The newsl etter address (from) will show up in my inbox just like it always has. When I click on it though, it won't open. Opens fine on both my laptop and PC with no issues. I don't see any obvious reasons why these emails wont open.

To make things  more confusing, I just did a transaction that generated a pair of emails, one was a calendar link from hotels.com and one was a confirmation.

They both arrived in my inbox back to back, the calendar invite email opened fine, while the confirmation email won't open.

All the emails that won't open have a common issue in that they seem like they are trying to scan for the server to load images etc, but they an't find the server. This just started about a week or so ago and is really only effecting one or two sites out of the probably hundreds of sites that send me email. I haven't done anything to phone.

Any suggestions are welcome.

AUP#I-1090 message issues

This really isn't so much a problem report as it is an attempt to document something that most (all?) of Spectrum tech support doesn't know about.  My work servers just changed publicly facing IP addresses and those servers could no longer send mail to spectrum accounts (rr.com, roadrunner.com, twc.com, etc).  The message was:

refused to talk to me: 421 dnvrco-cmimta26 esmtp ESMTP server temporarily unavailable AUP#I-1090

I figured that AUP#I-1090 was an easy thing to look up but nobody knew what it meant.  Turns out that this means that there are no reverse DNS records (PTR records in the in-addr.arpa domain) for the IP addresses I was sending from.  I set some up and mail started flowing again.  Note that the data portion of the RR doesn't need to point to an existing A or CNAME, my guess is just about anything will do but it does need to be there.

Hope this gets indexed by google and helps someone.

SSL/TLS no longer working?

Until yesterday (November 14, 2018), my Thunderbird email client was working fine using STARTTLS  connection security to mail.twc.com.  Now, I cannot get any encryption to work.  Does this mean there is no way to encrypt our passwords with Spectrum email?  if so, this is a major security risk.  My calls to Spectrum for help have resulted in helpful but not knowledgable level one support.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Is there a "return receipt" option in Spectrum email?  I want to track someone who constantly says they did not receive an email.  I can't find anything in the "Support" feature and Chat is not coming up.  can anyone answer my question and HOW to chose it.  Thank you.

Windows 10 Mail not sending - Motorola SBG6580 firewall stopping outgoing mail

Hi all,

Sorry to bring up this ongoing subject again but trying to use Windows Mail 10 and it's not sending the outgoing mail.  After a bunch of trial and error I've found that the firewall in my Motorola SBG6580 modem is what's stopping the email from sending when set to a High or medium setting.   The TWC outgoing mail is "mail.twc.com:587:0"  I'm making a bunch of assumptions but I think the modem is setup to allow mail on port 465 (see pictures)??  I can't change that setting in my firewall but was looking for any ideas on how to fix the firewall whether there's a way to set up a forwarding port or port filter if possible.  I know it's a modem issue as the problems follows two seperate SBG6580 modems on two different computers.1.jpg2.jpg

Residential Protection From Spam and Email Viruses

Spam is unsolicited email that typically contains a link or file attachment that can compromise security or infect computers with malicious software. Read on to find out more about the different ways Spectrum helps to protects you from spam and email viruses and what you can do to limit your risk.

Protection Against Spam

We use several different methods to protect customers from email spam and other unwanted messages:

  • Flagging Emails as Spam: If you receive a suspicious email, you can mark it as spam so that it’s blocked in the future.
  • Rate Limiting: Spectrum customers can only send a limited number of emails per hour and can include only a set number of recipients per message. This reduces spam and helps ensure mail system stability and usability for all customers.
  • Real-Time Blacklist (RBL): Users who are known to be spammers and who have violated the Terms of Service are banned. The blacklist is also used to block inbound mail sent from spammers with an IP address on an RBL.

Email Security Alerts

Spectrum customers with compromised or infected computers who are broadcasting outbound spam or virus-infected email will be prevented from sending email messages and will receive a 554 Email Security Alert error message.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Send us the original blocked email in one of two ways:
    • Open the original message in your Sent folder, update the address to unblock@charter.net  and select Send.
    • Create a new message addressed to unblock@charter.net, copy and paste the original message and then select Send.
  2. Wait 48 hours, and then resend the email to the original recipient as a test.
  3. If you're still having problems, contact us.
Note: Don't comment on or alter the original message. Additionally, don't send the rejected message or test message to unblock@charter.net and don't include any additional recipients.

Removing Email From the Spam Folder

To remove an email message incorrectly identified as spam from your Spam folder:

  1. Open your Spam folder and choose the email you want to remove.
  2. Select Move.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select which folder you want to move the email to, and then select Move.
  4. You can also select Mark As and then Not Spam to avoid having similar emails sent to the spam folder in the future.
Note: Emails in the Spam folder are automatically deleted after 14 days.

Reporting Email Abuse

You can also report spam or email abuse to the Federal Trade Commission. Be certain to include the full email headers. Learn more about reporting malicious internet usage.

Creating a New Email Address

Subscribers to Spectrum Business Internet receive email accounts and one domain at no additional charge. Even if you already have a personalized email address, it may be helpful for you to create a Spectrum Business email reflecting your business name (e.g. info@yourbusiness.com).

Note: The number of email accounts you receive is based on your subscription level.

Follow the steps below to create an email address as an administrator.

Note: You must register a domain name with Spectrum Business before you can enable Mail Hosting services. If your domain is hosted elsewhere, you’ll need to configure your domain or transfer your domain to Spectrum Business web hosting.

Create Your New Email Address

  1. Using your web browser, sign into the DNS and Email Administrative Interface.
  2. Use the Select context dropdown menu to select a mail domain.
  3. Select Create in the orange Mail Menu bar.
  4. Select Account in the blue sub-menu bar. This will open the Create Account screen. The mail domain field is automatically populated with the domain name you previously selected from the dropdown menu.
  5. In the Account field, enter the name of the account to be created.
  6. Enter a password in the Password field. Passwords must be a minimum of 8 characters, including at least one capital letter and at least one number.
  7. Enter the disk quota you want to assign to this account in the Disk Quota field. The disk quota may be any value up to the maximum space assigned to you when you signed up for the service. Most administrators allocate disk space equally among all the accounts to be created.
  8. Select the Create button. You may stop here and submit the account for creation or you can add an alias or a forwarding email address if desired. The Interface tool will display a message to confirm that your account has been created successfully.

new webmail url doesn't work inside VPN or proxy

Hi,

Inside our company VPN, and using the proxies always worked with mail.twc.com url and still does. However, the new  webmail.spectrum.net  redirects to https://webmail.spectrum.net/mail/auth  and it displays a red error message saying: ERROR for site owner:
Invalid domain for site key. The message is displayed indsde a "reCAPTCHA" box. This bhavior is in FireFox, Chrome and IE, so ALL browsers exhibit that behavior. If I'm outside the VPN, it works ok. Something needs to be done in the new url and the spectrum email.

Thanx,

New Webmail unusable on Windows 10

On Windows 10 Pro (1709 version), the new Spectrum webmail is such a mess that I cannot use it.

I have NO ICONS in the new Spectrum email! It is extremely difficult to navigate as I have no idea what "q" or "'", or "/" stand for and there are many other mystifying markers where the icons should be. I also have NO Inbox or most other folders listed on the left side. Plus, there is text on top of text. Plain text email does not display properly. My address book was NOT imported. All I have is emails in the inbox.

Spectrum support told me that ONLY Internet Explorer and Google Chrome browsers are supported and, as an after thought, he thought Firefox might be supported but no others like Vivaldi, Opera, or forks of Firefox like Pale Moon, Basilisk, etc. I have ZERO problems with TWC webmail on my default browser or the others I use. NONE of the SAME BROWSERS work with the new Spectrum webmail. Yet Spectrum support told me that the problems are with the browser makers NOT Spectrum which makes little sense. TWC can write software that works with all my browsers but Spectrum cannot?

postmaster support? 554 dnvrco-cmomta01 cmsmtp ESMTP server not available AUP#O-1000)

I run a small mail server at home and have for many years.  The last few days I've discovered that outgoing mail is no longer being relayed.  Server here is running Postfix, my relayhost setting was set to smtp-server.austin.rr.com, but I've just updated it to mail.twc.com with no change.

When my system attempts to send an email, I see this in my logs:

Oct 26 10:38:40 wrights-Mac-mini postfix/smtp[86673]: 3064C305F344: to=<xxx@xxx.com>, relay=mail.twc.com[107.14.73.68]:25, delay=1552, delays=1550/0.01/2.2/0, dsn=4.0.0, status=deferred (host mail.twc.com[107.14.73.68] refused to talk to me: 554 dnvrco-cmomta02 cmsmtp ESMTP server not available AUP#O-1000)

Again, this only started a few days ago and my system had been running fine for years.

Roadrunner and TWC used to have a web page just for postmasters to help with mail server issues, I'm not finding any such page on Spectrum's site and do not know who there I can contact regarding this issue.  Normail support staff will have no knowledge of mail server setups or be able to help.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Google - Spectrum connection...?

Not sure I understand what just (accidentally) happened...  I was headed to Google Calendar.  Clicked on bookmarked link (accounts.google.com/signin/blahblahblah) and arrived at my Google Calendar login screen as expected where I can click 'Next' if I want to log into my "user@gmail.com" Google account.  Realized that in the dropdown list of accounts was my Spectrum/TWC "userid@xx.rr.com" account. Decided to see where that took me.  I ended up in an 'empty' account where there didn't appear to be any activity.  Decided it must have been inadvertantly created (maybe as "userid@xx.rr.com@gmail.com" or something) and never actually used.

So....  I decided to delete it within Google.  After successfully archiving and downloading 300k or so of a zip file, I deleted what I thought was an errant Google acccount as "userid@xx.rr.com".  But nooooo!!  Somehow, via the Google interface, I deleted my Spectrum "userid@xx.rr.com" account.  Could NOT log in via the Spectrum webpage.

Fortunately, I was able to go back to Google and recover the account.

But now my question is "WHY".  How can this be possible???

Can’t send email when I’m out of town

I live in the Albany, NY area. I’m traveling this weekend and attempted to send an email via my nycap.rr.com address, but got the following error: Cannot Send Mail: The user name or password for “SMTP:aweise@nycap.rr.com@mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com” is incorrect. I just recently changed my password, so I know it’s correct. I can receive email just fine, too. Why does this happen? Am I using the wrong outgoing server? Is it blocking me because I’m on a network not local to my home? I’m using the native mail client on my Apple iPhone and iPad. Thanks!

"The email address or password is incorrect. "

So the other night I was checking my email after I got home from work and all was fine.  I tried checking it again a few hours later before I went to bed to see if an email I was waiting for had warrives and got the message "The email address or password is incorrect. "   I thought it was odd and maybe just a server issue, so I slept on it thinking it would be fine the next day.

Three days later I am STILL getting this message.  How can I be getting this when my address and password are stored in my browser settings?   The password reset tool doesn't work, it keeps timing out, and I have never in my life had to try finding my routers NAME as a security measure.

How can I fix this when Spectrums systems keep timing out trying to fix it?

webmail attached to account wrong

Hello.  My problem is that the webmail address attached to my account isn't correct.  At one time the account was in my uncle's name.  We had everything changed over to my name.  I recently tried to download the security suite that spectrum provides but I can't due to webmail.  The account still lists the webmail address that was under my uncle's name (despite everything else being linked to my email account).  I can't even sign in to manage the webmail accounts since it wasn't my account to start with.  I just want to be able to download the spectrum security suite for my computer.
